Love that snow! Yeah!
Below are a few reminders about upcoming things for HSYG. But especially the first one--which is this Friday Night!
Friday Night, we'll head downtown to Rosa Park Circle for ice skating! Yes, it finally opens this weekend! We'll meet at the Circle at 7 PM for ice skating. Cost is 1.00 per person, and rentals are free if you bring an id (from school is fine). I am planning on skating from 7-9, and afterwards heading someplace warm with food. If you need a ride, or can give a ride, be at the church at 6:30. Otherwise, we'll just meet you there.
(for some of you who read your bulletins, our original plan was to go tubing at Pando. But, Pando doesn't have tubing open on Friday night.)
Second, I have tickets still for Jars of Clay Christmas concert for Dec. 13th. This is a great concert, and afterwards we will hang out somewhere. Email me or call if you want a ticket.
Third, Mission Trip 2009--we will be gone July 11-18th! If you haven't signed up yet, and are interested let me know! This is an awesome time, and you'll be glad you made the choice to go.

This Friday!
hey, everyone!
we will be getting together this Friday night for fellowship and fun!
we will meet at the church at 6:30 PM--from here, we will go have pizza somewhere as a group and then to a different activity.
i called Grand Rapids parks, and they do not believe that they can have Rosa Parks open for skating. (many of you wanted to go ice skating!) but, we can do a number of different things. It will depend on how many youth we have show up.
so do come! and come with ideas. if it's too cold, I say a movie myself... but I am open to suggestions.

This Sunday, Nov. 9th
Two big things to plan on this Sunday!
First, come to Sunday School at 10 AM. I am bringing my calendar and I want to nail down activities for the next two months, or more, for High School. Let's plan this out. If we don't get to Buddhism on Sunday, we can do it next Sunday.
Second, for one hour (or even less) we will meet from 1:00 PM on Sunday to discuss the Mission Trip for 2009. I'll have as much info as possible--I am still waiting on quotes from the bus companies. See you there!
PS... it would be really great if you could bring your school calendars, too, so that we don't schedule something when you all are gone....

Jars of Clay Christmas Concert!
Hey!
I blocked off a section at the upcoming Friday, Dec. 13th, Jars of Clay Christmas Concert with Sixpence None The Richer at 7 PM at Sunshine Community Church.
This is for High School Youth ONLY! Let's all go to the concert, and afterwards hang out somewhere...
But, you must reserve your ticket (10.00 each, but if cost is a problem, let me know, ok?) by emailing me back NOW and paying me to hold your ticket.

Newest news...
Hey, everyone!
Just some quick news about High School stuff for this upcoming week!
First off, Sunday School has never been better! We are meeting this Sunday at 10 AM to continue our discussion about other churches and what they believe. This week--Eastern Orthodox.
We will not have YG this Sunday--Dave is out of town, and I couldn't throw something together soon enough.
BUT--you asked for it! So I am doing it! Beginning this Wednesday, the 22nd, I will do a HS youth ONLY bible study from 6-7 PM. Dinner is provided at the church for 2.00! I mean, 2.00! So grab a meal and come to my office. You don't need to know your bible well! But if we could get a weekly group going, that talks about the bible, what it means for us today--that would be awesome! Several of you have talked to me about this. Please make a point and come!
Regarding OLD news...I did not hear from Group Workcamps, yet, about where we got in for our mission trip camp. I have a call in, as soon as I know, I will pass on the details. Make sure you watch for the email and also PLAN ON GOING! It will change your life! Talk to other youth who have gone... everyone who went last year said that they would go again... you can't get better than that!
To earn money, we will begin to sell Christmas wreaths. I'll email out order forms and info. Or, post here. :)
How about we go to DeGage for a service time on Nov. 21st, 7-10ish? Faceless will perform and we can serve the meals. Tell me if you want to go.
The Gathering for Michigan High School youth is coming faster than you know it. It's Dec. 27-30th... yes, I know it's a crazy week. But, this could be our retreat time in Lansing, at a hotel with a bunch of others---it's actually a lot of fun. Please think about going--it's a lot of fun, and I know the speakers well. They are actually GOOD!

News for Oct. 10th...
Ok--Today's Oct. 10th! Yeah! Where did September go?A few things. Read on.
Next month, we will meet for the first time to talk about the Mission Trip 2009. I am waiting to hear from Group Workcamps where we are going. Spaces were filled and we're the "wait" for a few spots. As soon as I know dates and place, I will share... I promise! I want to know, too! Hopefully next week.
To earn money, we will begin to sell Christmas wreaths. I'll email out order forms and info. Or, post here. :)
Faceless is really taking off, and playing this Sunday. Way to go! :) How about we go to DeGage for a service time on Nov. 21st, 7-10ish? Faceless will perform and we can serve the meals. Tell me if you want to go.

I'm off to 5/3 park tonight to see the Huskies play! Go blue! I am trying to get to each high school, but I am running out of Fridays... At least tonight is WARM!

We will be Bowling today, from 2-5 PM at Eastbrook Lanes—near Centerpointe Mall. You’re free to simply show up with friends… we’ll hang out and maybe plan a few things for November, too.

SUNDAY, Sept. 28th...
Hey everyone,
Dave and I just got off the phone. It was our hope that we could get a group thing going this Sunday Afternoon, like we planned, but we can't swing it. I am booked at church, and Dave has a family thing... so--enjoy your Homecoming Weekends, and we will hopefully get plans in cement for Sunday, October 5th, for the afternoon.
If you missed our planning meeting on Sunday the 14th, you still can email us or blog here ideas for events and stuff. Talk to you all soon! Sarah & Dave

ThIs SunDaY! Woo-hoo!
Hey, everyone
This Sunday AM at 10 AM , I will be leading a discussion on heaven and hell--what is biblical and what is fictional... hey, you picked the topic. Not me!
After that, our HS class will discuss the differences between our Lutheran faith and other world religions, and large Christian Denoms. On Sept. 21st, I will start with Mormonism.
Sunday NITE, this week, we will meet from 7-8 PM in the Youth Room--it's our large scale planning meeting. You tell us what you want to do, Dave and I will plan it. It's that simple. And yes, we're doing ski trip, mission trip, etc... but what lies between those events, we need your advice and help, ok? So, show up for the hour and have your say.
This year is gonna be so good. I am still pumped from the mission trip. God bless ya all.

What's new this week--in case you didn't read the bulletin!
Confirmands who are in 9th grade—Be sure that your service hours and faith journey paper are turned into Sarah Stobie ASAP. Our confirmation service will be Oct. 26th, 11:15. Watch your snail mail for details.
Sunday School for Middle School and High School begins on Sunday the 7th. High Schoolers will meet in the Youth Lounge (near Fellowship Hall), and the Middle Schoolers will meet upstairs in the Youth Upper Room—check it out! We really worked on the rooms this summer and make them look great!
Mentors for HS and MS Youth Groups are needed! Sarah needs A TEAM of adults to assist with HS and MS events, youth groups, and activities. Let her know if you are interested!
High School Youth Group will NOT meet Sunday, Sept. 7th. We will meet on the 14th for our first time. Also, Sarah’s hoping to get a group together this week to plan out the Fall. Talk to her soon to get involved with the planning.
Faceless—the Youth Band—is always open to new members! If you are interested, talk to Sarah or email Tom Demmen for a schedule. He’s at facelesstlc@yahoo.com!

We're BACK!
Mission Trip 2008 was an awesome experience. If you missed it, wow---you missed a lot. We really had a wonderful time, making new friends, worshipping God, and helping others. Our theme was Love Out Loud! And we surely did that.
My pics are on Facebook--you'll probably need to be a friend to see them. I also put a lot in the August Messenger. Check them out, and just tell yourself that next year, you'll go, too!

Summer time, summer time!
Summer is finally here, and I am SO glad!
Mission Trippers leave on Saturday, July 12th in the morning and return on Saturday the 19th! Pray for us to have a safe trip to Pennsylvania! :)
On July 6th, we will be commissioning our Mission Trippers at both services. (Remember to wear your t-shirts, too!)
VBS is July 21st through 25th. If you could help out, even only one day, call me at the church office! Or, email me at sarah.stobie@tlcgr.org

It's been a while...
I just keep forgetting to update. I send things to the bulletin, and to the messenger, and through email... it's confusing! But here we go! A real update.
THIS SUNDAY!
It's been ages since we have gotten together (but didn't you love the long Spring Break from school???)!
We will have a gathering this Sunday night at 6:30 PM in Centennial Hall. Come and hang out, catch up, have some snacks (I'll get Krispy Kremes!), and help plan our next few outings. We'll play a few games, too!
And don't forget Sunday School this week, too. We have been sharing our favorite books and music, and relating it to our beliefs.

March 2 at 6:30 PM—Come and get your Youth Group T-shirt! It’s Game Night, too! Come and hang out with friends! Play botchy ball around the church, too!
March 16—Read this carefully! You suggested it, we’re doing it!
Guys Night In—On March 16th, we will have a “guys only” basketball tournament. Sign ups are located on the High School News Bulletin Board. Dads, we will need a few refs. Questions? Talk with Dave Murray or email him at dmurray@iserv.net
Girls Night Out—On March 16th, we will meet at a local move theatre to see a movie as a group. Sign ups are located on the High School News Bulletin Board. New News for this Week!
Ok, we have heard from a few of ya... and Dave and I have made the following plans:
First, we will meet as a Group on Sunday the 20th... for those of you without exams and homework, come to church at 6:30 PM. Sarah's hired the AV guy, Brooks, to run the DVD projector on our massive screen in Centennial Hall. We'll watch a movie, have popcorn, and just chill. Movie suggestions? Blog them here--Dave's picking the movie.
Second, We will move the time of Youth Group on Sunday, Feb. 3rd to 2-4 PM. We know it's Super Bowl Sunday... and so, we'll meet here at the church and leave at 2 PM to go either bowling or lazer tag... something like that.
TLC God Squaders, we will meet at 1:30 PM, on Sunday, Feb. 3rd.

Dave and I have been crazy with work and family issues these past few months... and let's be honest, it's hard getting you all together, too. We'd like a God Squad meeting, is it possible to do it after a meeting we are already at? Like, after the next mission trip meeting on Feb. 10th, or Before Youth Group on Feb. 3rd? Blog back what is best for you. Let's git 'er done.
